Principal Data Engineer, Analytics
Location: Toronto

Zynga is looking for a Principal Data Engineer to create and maintain efficient and reliable data pipelines and work closely with our game studios to gather new data and leverage existing data to improve our games. We have an extremely data driven culture and we use and process data in real time to generate insights about our games and players. We are constantly innovating and designing new ways to deliver against our road map and have plenty of very interesting problems to solve (at scale).
In this role, you will be working on some of the coolest technologies with some of the smartest minds in the industry

Responsibilities:

Develop infrastructure to inform on key metrics, recommend changes, and predict future results
Interface with engineers, product managers and analysts to understand data needs
Own Data Management, Data Modelling and ETL infrastructure for Zynga company-wide
Help build out the framework as we evolve our ETL from Vertica to include newer technologies
Analyze and improve efficiency, scalability and stability of Vertica clusters
Support existing processes running in production

Minimum qualifications:
B.S. in Computer Science, Information Management or equivalent.
5+ years of experience in the data warehouse space.
2+ years of experience working with an MPP system, experience with Vertica is a plus.
Experience building ETL processes for large volumes of data.
Good database development skills with SQL proficiency, a solid understanding of relational database technologies.
Ability to mentor others and coordinate a project across multiple developers.

Preferred qualifications:

Basic fundamentals of Computer Science and proficiency in Python or Bash.
Experience with cloud environment like Amazon’s AWS.
Experience with ETL frameworks like Airflow is highly desirable.
Good communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with others in a team environment.
