AVAILABLE POSITIONS Principal Concept Artist

Zynga is looking for a Principal Concept Art Generalist to help craft an exciting new game in the casino card game genre! You will be creating amazing visuals from a very early production stage through the greenlight process and eventually the game’s launch. Working alongside an Art Director and small cross-discipline team, you’ll start by developing visuals for game pitches and prototypes, then help develop the visual identity and create in-game art assets.

An ideal candidate is a strong concept artist with a versatile portfolio who also has secondary art skills like 3d modeling, animation, or UI art and is comfortable working in Unity. You have a passion for games, crafting stunning visuals, and you are the kind of person who is always pushing themselves to learn new things. You have experience making casino or card games or have a curiosity about the genre and desire to learn what our players want and how to deliver it to them. This position will be located at any of Zynga's offices in the US or Canada.

Main Responsibilities

  • Vast and precise visual development of various art assets — ranging from quick sketches and proof-of-concept storyboards to final art that will be used in the game.
  • Create high quality concept art, with the ability to deliver consistent quality across all areas of characters, environments, vehicles, props and more.
  • Work in tandem with the Art Director and your cross-discipline teammates to develop gameplay and visual identity, bringing in best practices in every aspect to maintain and exceed quality standards.
  • Comfortable jumping in wherever needed to round out your team’s skills and do whatever needs doing in artistic areas like User Interface designs, animation, VFX, or 3D modeling if need be.
  • Work in a fast-paced setting and quickly adapt to changing circumstances. Early stage game production will involve rapid prototyping and user testing as we explore what gameplay, theme, and artstyle will make our next big hit.
  • Prepare and implement art assets into Unity.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, work efficiently, handle time effectively, and complete your work with minimal oversight.
  • Find opportunities to mentor, share knowledge, insights, and experiences with others.
  • Able to collaborate with proactive communication and a willingness to build consensus with potentially opposing perspectives.
  • Demonstrates proactive self-development and curiosity about leveling up personal, interpersonal, and craft skills.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years of experience as a concept artist — please include your portfolio with relevant industry/personal work.
  • Experience developing new games from pre-production through launch.
  • Excellent eye for composition, color theory, design.
  • Strong rendering skills, and ability to adapt to different art styles.
  • Ability to quickly identify problems and suggest solutions in pitches, art reviews and impromptu conversations.
  • Ability to mentor more junior artists when called upon.
  • Quick accurate sketching skills for storyboards/proof-of-concept pitches.
  • A capacity to come up with new and creative ideas in your work.
  • BFA or equivalent degree
  • Knowledge of software like Creative Suite, Perforce, and JIRA.
  • Experience making slots or card games is not required but is highly desirable.
