Position Title: Database Administrator
Department: Data Management
Reports To: Manager, Database Administration

Position Summary:

You will be responsible for supporting, maintaining and further enhancing the use of MySQL, Aurora, Vertica and other databases inside Zynga. This position will help provide a stable, high performing storage platform to support a variety of large scale online social games and other applications to help reduce the operational costs of running a business through the use of MySQL and other data storage systems. A passion for gaming is desirable.

Responsibilities:

Manage database systems in cloud (AWS/GCP) and non-cloud environments
Maintain data integrity and high availability of database systems
Manage configurations for MySQL, Aurora/RDS, Vertica and other database systems
Triage, fix, or escalate system and database issues
Update and tune database systems in high volume environment loads
Work with Games and App teams for design, problem solving and best practices
Work with Operations to manage database hardware infrastructure
Participate in on-call rotation
Document procedures
Use and write automation and reporting tools to manage databases
Identify and recommend tools and services for managing infrastructure
Automate systems and deployment procedures
Analyze and develop capacity planning for database growth

Required Skills:

7+ years RDBMS experience working in a high volume production environment
At least 5+ years as a MySQL DBA in a LAMP environment (Centos/Redhat preferred)
Experience in AWS and/or GCP (Google Cloud)
Advanced level knowledge in various aspects of MySQL 5.x /Aurora/RDS and problem solving skills
Experience with Perl/PHP/Python, Nagios and Cacti
Solid knowledge of physical and logical database design
Solid knowledge in schema design principles with demonstrated aptitude to apply best practices for scalable designs and influence developers
Proficiency in writing automation scripts in Perl , Shell, PHP or Python
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and team spirit

I/O performance tuning
Understanding and troubleshooting TCP/IP networking services
Knowledge of Vertica or other data warehouse systems
Knowledge of NoSQL solutions
Database sharding
